Vice and Memory Grip - Chapter 18
Chapter 18 On the carriage ride, they had some food with permission from the driver, using the time to get energised for when they would need to walk again. Once they had arrived in the city they set off to make their way through to find the adventurer’s guild. It wasn’t far from where the carriage had dropped them off so when they were inside they asked about the dragoon and found out he had had the job for the bandit removed because he had already taken the man into custody, so to remove all notices. After that he had headed to Star City with the bandit and some guards in tow whom he had left with. Seeing as the man was on the move again and would be travelling far, they knew they needed to cover more ground. So they would need to buy another ride at least once to catch up on the shortening gap between them. Even though they needed to chase after him, they also needed to train more in case of any incidents on the rest of the way. It would do them no good if they got badly injured

Chapter 17
During the night, Eletha was in and out of sleep, mainly from the pain of her wound healing itself. The nurses popped in and gave her painkillers when needed, which soon returned her to sleep
By the morning she felt fairly well rested. Kane, on the other hand, hadn’t had quite so good a sleep. He couldn’t get Eletha’s blissful smiling face out of his head. If she really did look at him like that because of having strong feelings for him, he hoped she would be over them quickly. He couldn’t up and abandon her now, so maybe he had to emphasise she was a kid to him more. Their age gap wasn’t that big so

Once they were out of the cave, Eletha asked, “How did you set it on fire?”
“Well, I’m pretty handy with a knife and a rock,” Kane laughed lightly as he spoke. Eletha looked from the cave to him and smiled, feeling both relief and happiness. Then it hit her that he was still carrying her princess style so her cheeks started to burn. Turning her face away from him to look at their surroundings she hoped her blush would dissipate quickly, and it did when they saw the victims they’d saved ahead. The group had walked a little ahead into the swampy woods but had waited for them t

They made good ground for the rest of the day and decided to camp up near a farm. The farmer and his family saw they were travellers and his wife had even offered them to sleep in the house, but both Kane and Eletha refused. Eletha felt bad enough that people had been so kind to her for not much in return and they needed to make sure they got up early and left in the morning, and that would be quite rude to the farmer’s family if they just up and left without giving them proper thanks and associating. The family understood and let them camp at the edge of their farm, and even let them have a chicken and s

That night, Eletha slept well. Kane had returned her to her room before retiring to his room. Neither had intended to be there so late in the evening, around one in the morning, but they ended up having so much fun that even after the slow dance that the hours seemed to disappear in the blink of an eye.
In the morning, it was around nine o’clock and Eletha woke to see the teddy Kane had given her on the pillow beside her. Seeing as she had worked all day setting up for the festival, then danced and played all evening, she now felt shattered. She was well rested but her muscles felt sore. However, she mad

As the evening was heading in it meant a light dinner for everyone before the festival. It felt good to go for food now they had all finished their work and were very hungry from all their efforts. Sonia had had her sleep and was now back on shift, and had made some food for them for doing all the work she had been assigned to do. She had wanted to do it but as she was on night shift she had needed the sleep so she was actually very grateful for their help. Feeding them meant they were allowed into the little “apartment” that either she or her husband or brother used whenever they were working, which included a little kitchen and

In the morning Kane woke and realised he could hear a lot of hustle and bustle outside. It took him a moment to realise that the sun was fairly high, which meant he had slept in. Instantly he threw off the covers and jumped out of bed, checking the clock in the room which read about ten in the morning.
“Damn,” he said under his breath, hurriedly putting on his clothes before going to Eletha’s room and giving it a good knock, but there was no answer. Had she already left? Where was she? Seeing as she had such a bad night, he wondered if she was okay. He even grabbed his knives, leaving his other
